Caguas, named after a local Indian chief, is located south of San Juan in Puerto Rico’s largest valley. It is home to the Carite Forest Reserve, a 6000-acre reserve housing a dwarf forest, fifty species of birds, and ample picnic areas and camp grounds. Also head to Sotomayor del Toro Reserve on the steep slopes of Cerro La Santa where the tallest peak reaches 3,000-feet high and you’ll find glistening streams, numerous wildlife species, and amazing panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea. Other places worthy of a visit include the Botanical and Cultural Garden, the Historical Museum of Caguas, Abelardo Diaz Alfaro Pink House, and Carraizo Lake, Puerto Rico’s largest lake.
